The Maritime Archaeology Program at Flinders University is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding in Round 3 of the ALA Fellowships program to bring 11 mid-career professionals involved in maritime archaeology from the Asia-Pacific region (from Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines) to Australia for a six week intensive training program from mid January to March 2009. In that time they will undertake two 6 unit intensive topics (each one week) and a 6 unit field school (two weeks) which form part of the Maritime Archaeology Program teaching. They will also undertake a two week placement (internship) with a museum, underwater cultural heritage agency or related organisation.

The Australian Leadership Awards - Fellowships are a component of a regional program that aims to develop leadership and build partnerships and linkages with the Asia-Pacific. They are intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Australian Leadership Awards program comprises of Scholarships and Fellowships. ALA Fellowships are for short term study, research and professional attachment programs in Australia delivered by Australian organisations. ALA Fellowships complement the longer term ALA Scholarships providing opportunities to senior officials and mid-career professional who cannot leave their positions for extended periods.

The ALA Fellowships is a highly flexible program that offers Australian organisations opportunities to provide short term study, research and professional development activities in Australia for fellows from the Asia-Pacific region. Fellows are leaders or mid-career professionals from the Asia-Pacific region who have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the region. ALA Fellowships are available across a broad range of fields relevant to Australia's foreign policy agenda or development outcomes within the Asia-Pacific region.
